Davis automobiles were manufactured by wagon builder, George W. Davis at Richmond, Indiana between 1908 and 1929. The first cars were motorized buggies but a proper touring car appeared in 1911. He powered the touring cars with 4 cylinder Continental engines. In 1914 he introduced the Continental Six and from 1916 to 1926 he used six cylinder engine exclusively. In 1927 he switched to an eight. Davis liked two tone paint jobs and offered them quite early as compared to other manufacturers. He also had a line of sporty models that appealed to the younger set in the Roaring 20's.. But, as the 1920's wore on, his cars did not keep up with the times. Davis produced 1,780 cars in 1920. The numbers diminished each year until 1927 when only 98 cars were built. In 1928 Davis was purchased by Automotive Corporation of America. Any Davis's built in 1929 were made from leftover 1928 parts.

If you need more details, let me know.

Hi, In response to your request for early Davis auto data, be advised that I have a fairly extensive library on most makes of cars. What would you like to know? Ed Jacobowitz, Uncasville, CT
