Does a '57 Chev pickup have a VIN on any part other than the firewall?

I had this problem when transferring a title for a 1950 Chevy. There is a chassis number on the driver door frame, but did not agree with original title. Local state police determined that the VIN number was located on the engine block, stamped in a flat area just behind where the distributor was installed. Seems in the old days, engine numbers were often used for identification, do not remember when this practice was changed, but might be worth a look.
