Ok, so now that i've got a lot of the engine issues worked out, i'm getting annoyed by a couple of new issues, and i don't know what the likely suspects are...

1. Steering pulls to the right a hair, except when i brake. Then, the car turns the steering wheel to the right about 10 degrees. When i let up off the brake, the steering stays where it is and i have to correct it back.

2. There's a squeak coming from somewhere in the right front suspension or body. When i'm turning it doesn't make any noise. I don't hear it at higher speeds. It sounds like metal-on-metal rubbing.

3. The left front suspension has a 'CLUNK' like something's loose

So, what i've done so far is crawled under the car and realized i know nothing about mid-60's steering or suspension. The front disc brakes look familiar, but that's about it :] Although i did notice that where *i think* the pittman arm and the tie rod connect, it's about 2 inches lower on the right than the left, and very close to (less than 1/8' from) a structural cross-member that seems like it's a frame-stiffener? There's another cross-member on the left.

Is the car just tremendously out of alignment? The old tires were rotten, so didn't think about looking for wear patterns before they were replaced. What would cause that joint to be so much lower than the other side, and how can i correct it? I hope i'm not asking unanswerable questions. Just hoping someone else has run into this before.

Thanks,

My car does the exact same backing-up-turning-right clunk! it's like something completely shifts in the suspension. I forgot about it when i posted.

I wouldn't mind getting some experience rebuilding the front end. What kind of cost am i looking at? And who has the best value for bushings? Does someone sell a rebuild kit?
