Wouldn't it be nice to drive an Antique auto down the road with a carload of family members. Safety is nonexistent with it's mechanical drum brakes, lack of seat belts and a steering column that will spear the driver. Chic!

Your brain is nonexistent! No seat belts? Ever hear of aftermarket belts that can be installed in ANY older car, including lap and shoulder belts? Disc brake conversions are done on a regular basis on almost ALL older cars today. Most people restoring an older car make the car as safe as they possibly can. Almost all safety features on a newer car, with the exception of some of the newer technology can be put on a good restoration job.

I guess that's why the newspapers and TV news reports are just filled with stories of antique auto disasters. NOT! A funny thing about folks that restore old cars. After spending thousands of dollars and hours on their cars they tend to only drive them in parades and other occasions. They are usually trailered to events and seldom on the highways under their own power. Even then they are very carefully driven. No one wants to risk destroying all that work. Hot rodders on the other hand drive their old cars often. These cars are nearly always equipped with the latest safety equipment including power brakes (many have ABS) and seat belts. My own 34 model has power brakes, steering, modern electrics, modern suspension front and rear and a late model engine. This is the rule rather than the exception. Clowns like you might want to eliminate all vestiges of automotive history but the majority of people want to preserve it, even experience it. If you want to be lost in the crowds on the highway buy a new car. If you want to turn heads and stand out build a classic.

You're wrong in both occasions.

1) Accident's don't 'happen', there's always someone who drives them, ie. you or somebody else.

2) Safety (or lack of it) comes from driver's head, everything else is irrelevant. Including brakes or seat belts.
