Hi own a 86 VW Iltis Army Jeep and the rear brakes are worn to the rivets. Does anyone know if a person can rebuild brakes shoes? I doubt very much my local parts store will have brake shoes for an Iltis so this may be my only option?

Thanks for your help!

Its very common with old cars. You need to find a brake specialty shop in your area. They can bond new material onto the old metal parts. Ed

Before you give up hope on finding shoes, try an import auto specialist. If they don't have a listing, you might be able to take a sample in to them and they can match them up to some other model VW. A lot of manufacturers will use standard parts on their cars...your shoes may be standard on another model.

If that fails, a clutch and brake specialist in your local Yellow Pages might be able to help.
