Hi all!

I have been thinking on how to solve my car transportation needs. I have a Cadillac just outside San Antonio that I need to have transported around 230 miles to Houston. A shipping company wanted 450 dollars for that, renting a truck plus trailer would end up at over 300 dollars...

Any ideas/suggestions?

The car can be driven/used but I can't get an insurance as I do now have a permanent US address (I'm Swedish).

Thanks,

Make sure you ask how much to rent the truck in Houston as a local. It may be cheaper to rent it in Houston, drive to San Antonio, and return to Houston. Figure 10 miles per gallon and $1.50/gallon (at least) for gas.

Are you currently located in Texas?

You probably could find an insured driver to drive it to Houston for a fee and paid return transportation but it would have to have valid plates such a a thirty day permit...

If your Cadillac is old (1950's or older) you may take a chance on just driving it to Houston, without a transport or current plates. As long as you are driving safely and slow, most of the highway patrol in Texas will look the other way for classic car transport, especially if you are going from a small town outside San Antonio to another small town outside Houston. Driving IH-10 through Houston is whole diferent subject. And if you are stopped you had better have some type of insurance, even if its the Rodney D, Young buy it today cancel it tomorrow type!
