A friend of mine just bought an antique vw beetle t1.
It was in a very bad condition and he decided to fix it himself but it seems to be much harder than he thought.
Have you taken upon yourself the task of remodeling a car? How far would you go?
Love to hear about support sites for the process.

Hi all new to the site seen this post so thought i would reply

My car fixin started when i was about 15 im 38 now , i had never restored or much really messed with cars at a restoreation level , i mean ive had lowriders and added rims stereos and painted 2 cars 1 a fresh out of the paint shop to a show won best paint award all done by me never knowing what the hell i was doing.

In about 2000 i bought a 62 impala 4 door straight 6 with a oil bath air cleaner and 3 on the tree for 100$ , it had a tree growing thru the back bumper it took a 4x4 to pull it from the spot , we chain pulled it home wasnt to far , exhaust fell out going down the road , got it home started to clean it out the doors were filled to the tops with ant piles , after geting it all cleaned out i had to get the motor to run , the engine was seized with 53,000 orginal miles , put transmission fluid in the spark plug holes kept working the engine back and forth for about a week , finaly got it free , new points , new plugs and wires cleaned out the gas tank replaced the rubber fuel hoses , oil and filter , car started right up , replaced the bumper , exhaust , spoke wheels and new tires , sanded and primered it and drove it for along great car never gave me any problems sold it for 5000$ with 67,000 miles on it.

never really touched a car before , from that point on ive been hooked , i have a 82 chevy s10 v8 350 13secs in a quarter that i built ,A 67 vw baja bug 4 inch body lift i ground up restored.

back then i was a produce driver in 2000 , since then i have been a welder and now am a diesel mechanic of many years for peterbilt

all of these skills i learned on my own no one ever showed me anything . so it can be done when i first started at peterbilt i had always worked externals of trucks , a truck came in the motor needed rebuilt my boss told me to get on it i was like ummmm ok picked up a book and went to town i have built tons of diesel motors now and have never seen the trucks again for motor problems ..

now i still work as a diesel mechanic , just got my own shop with a partner at work and we just bought our first full frame off restoration project a 66 Impala sport Coupe.

To give you an idea of the project im starting with here it is , thats my buddy Art in the picture dont ask
