Ford Fairlane 500---WHat do I have?
Hello, all. I just bought a house in the sticks with a few acres and left on it is an old Ford Fairlane 500. It doesn't have a VIN where later model cars do, but it does have a plate in the end of the driver's side door with some markings. Those markings are:

Body: 65A, Color: 5, Trim: 36, Date: 14M, DSO: 34, Axle: 6, Trans: 6

What I want to know is what year model it is and if it's worth anything. I had some people drive up and offer to buy it but since I've no idea what it's worth I don't know what to ask or take for it.

You need the vin to tell you what year the car is and the motor it came with. When you determine that, and also the current condition, an approximate value can be found. If you don't have a vin, check pictures of all year fairlanes and compare them to yours (although I don't see why the car would be completely devoid of a vin number). Good luck.

Also, the vin should be located on the top of the data plate where you got the other numbers.

Belmont Blue in 1959. Changed to a turquoise later. Trim: Black fabric and vinyl. Date: December 14. DSO: Indianapolis. Axle: 3.00/1. Trans: 4-speed close ratio manual.

The year is not part of the code, but that color code was not used prior to 1959.
