Look on the upper flange of the chassis, near the steering box. It's usually stamped in. Ed J.

On my '34 it is stamped in two locations. One on the top surface of the frame rail above the steering box and the other over the rear axle. Of coarse you have to pull the body off to see the rear location so somewhat limit usage.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the VIN on a model 'A' actually the engine number?

Curt.

When I bought the '34 back in 1970 they only put the frame number on the pink slip. The original engine was long gone. But originally they used both the engine and frame numbers to identify a car.

YOU ARE CORRECT. THE NUMBER FOR REGISTRATION IS THE ENGINE NUMBER.

There is no rhyme or reason to the numbering system on the chassis. The bodies were made in one place and sent to assembly plants all over the world. No way could they keep track of these numbers. See the book 'Henry's Lady' for a lot of information.
