For really clean I use a product called Bon Ami, either bar or powder. It is a fine grit powder. Wash windows with water and Bon Ami let dry, dry wipe off. Presto.

I wouldn't use Bon Ami..it is an abrasive. Use a liquid dishwasher detergent and water. It's a bit messy, but it will ge the glass squeaky clean. Then contact a local glass shop for Sprayway Glass Cleaner..It's the best thing on the market. I've been selling it for 30 years. If you

The abraisive in Bon Ami is the same mild abraisive used in some tooth paste products. Calcium carbonate! Not only will not hurt your teeth, it will not hurt class. It is in fact used in glass manufacturing processes. It is also the best product around to buff small wiper or sand scratches out of a windshield.

I'm not trying to be a smartass or anything but first you say that it's not an abrasive and then you say it's good for buffing out scratches...
-Nipper 91 Ford PU (it may be ugly but it sure is slow) 73 Duster (in about 2000 pieces, for the time being) 73 Malibu (what's a nice car like this doing at MY house?)

Twice he says that IT IS AN ABRASIVE.........'The ABRASIVE in Bon Ami is the same mild ABRASIVE.......' Where does he say it's not an abrasive? tom kan pa

With all due respect, you were the one who posted the message questioning Bon-Ami's 'Hasn't Scratched Yet' claim in jest. It was some guy pushing liquid detergent as the solution to windshield cleaning and suggesting Bon-Ami was a bad idea that posted the message you originally responded to. I believe if you will look at it and the message you responded to above you will find there is no mention in either of Bon-Ami not being an abraisive.
For the guy that suggested dishwasher detergent; one thing is for certain all liquid detergents for dishwashers contain some form of Clorine and sodium silicates. Neither is going to do automotive paint any good if it comes into contact with it and is not immediately and thoroughly rinsed off. Meaning if it gets around the body parts below the windshield and some remains from lack of adeqate rinsing one can start looking for rust PDQ. Plus, sodium silicate before it desolves can be far more abraisive than the calcium carbonate in Bon-Ami. Nothing in Bon-Ami will harm automotive paints on simple contact.
A copy of his and your first post is below.

It would seem some people seem to have a problem with reading comprehension, just as the guy that suggested liqud dishwasher detergent seems to have a bit of a problem with chemistry. Liquid dishwasher detergent contains Clorine and sodium silicates, both of which are big time oxidants and if not thoroughly rinsed from any body surface will ruin paint and using on a windshield creates a great opportunity for rust to start in any body seams below the winshield.

I originally, tongue in cheek, posted the following, the part being between the << >> was a clip of a previous post. <<I wouldn't use Bon Ami..it is an abrasive.>> Then its slogan, 'Hasn't Scratched Yet' is a lie? tom kan pa
Then I get credit for the following post, not my post though. And then credit for this post! Well, I'll try the sprayway, and post my opinion of it.

Everyone please remember that there are two similar versions of Bon Ami in the familiar shaker tube. One is much too course to use on windows, the original milder version has been used on auto windows for years, BYMMV.
