The only people that would use it would use it in circumstances when they would not have walked anyway. Should we ban bicycles because you will be in worse shape if you bike everywhere than if you were to walk everywhere? Why are you not trying to ban cars as well?

The point is that segways should not be on sidewalks anymore than bicylcles should be. SideWALKS are meant for walking and segways endanger the walkers. Of course that's why people like the segways. It gives them a way to be sidewalk terroirsts just like people buy 3 ton SUVs so they can endanger other drivers on the highways.

Put the segways on the streets with the other motorized vehicles and let the scooter loonies take their chances there. Case closed..

Living in the People's Republic of Boulder (Colorado), I can attest what Scott in Aztlan is commenting about bicycles terrorising the pedestrians on the sidewalks. They can be so bad that I sometimes wish for the severe measures against them.

PS I saw only one Segway in Boulder which is surprising because Boulder is mecca for eccentric modes of transportations, be it Mazda 323 covered with Astroturf, Volvo 240 estate filled with dolls and action figures, stretched Honda motorcycle (limousine?), old silver school bus with fences and working gas-fired fire pit atop its roof, old Toyota pick-up truck with cone-shaped tail, etc.

Bicycles are vehicles that belong on the roadway. However, due to some types of motorists many people choose the sidewalks, where they cannot be ridden at at more than a walking pace without endangering pedestrians and the bicyclist himself.

Yes tit is unsafe to drive a segway on the roads; but only for the idiots using them. OTOH, when segway users are on sidewalks it's the pedestrians that will get injured. In other words - let these scooter loonies commit suicide, but not homicide.

The bikes are really bad out on the mountain trails. You can be hiking along without a care in the world and come around a curve in the trail and boom, there is some idiot on a bike doing 20 mph right at you with no place for either him or you to go. Trails should be for hiking only. Unfortunately mountain biking is a big business now and we'll never get rid of them.
