I am looking for a maker of leather fan belts for older cars. The cars in particular are old pre 1928 Buicks. If anyone knows of any manufacturers it would very helpful.

My 1912 Buick uses a round leather belt. I found a suitable repalcement from an industrial sewing machine supply company. It's a bit bigger than 3/8' diameter and is spliced with a metal link. It seems to work OK.

Pending a qualified answer FWIW - If you have an original belt it would be best to replicate that, and a spare. Otherwise, make one of two or more laminations, and sew the edges and the butt or scarf splice ends to a continuous area of another layer. Cut a shallow grove along the edges for sewing so the threads won't be the primary bearing surface. Vegetable tanned leather shrinks and swells with water and is made for 'tooling' with various stamps and things. Chrome tanned leather is nearly impervious to water and probably a far better material for a fan belt. Pig leather is stronger than cow, and kangaroo is the strongest leather. 'leather craft' seems to be a good phrase in the search engines since cuts down the hits for vegetarian and kinky underware sites.
