I should know how to do this, so go ahead and razz me. I need to remove my 1951 Dodge Meadowbrook's steering wheel, but I never had to take one off an old-timer like this before.
What's the trick?- you'll save me a few days of figgerin'.
BTW, the shop manual says 'Remove the horn ring and button.' Big help. 8-)>

You probably need a steering wheel puller once you get the center nut off. See if you have two threaded holes, one on each side of the shaft. If you do, you thread bolts into them from the puller and screw the center bolt of the puller against the shaft to pull the wheel.

Mike After rereading your post I realized you may not know how to remove the button and ring. Most just have a button that pops out by carefully prying up from underneath and have a O-ring that allows you to pop it back in. After the button is off you should find 2 or 3 screws that hold the ring.

That's the ticket! I suspected as much, but you know what happens when you go prying on things without knowing for sure!
Thanks a million.

If you cannot find another, and, if the horn ring is made of pot metal, it can be repaired. It might be expensive to get it replated, afterward, but if that's your only option....
There are various 'welding' rods on the markets that can be used on pot metal. Usually, you see them hawked at swap meets as 'aluminum' welding rod. Your local Forney welding products dealer can get the same stuff for you at about half the swap meet prices.

Good info, but I don't have all the parts - some of the ring-to-center parts are missing, so I guess I'm screwed unless I can figger a way to re-cast them.

Hey Mike, don't throw away those pieces yet. I'm setting up a 'mini foundry' to cast some obsolete spindle covers and obsolete dash knobs for one of my projects. If it works out as easily as I think it will, I'll pass the formula along to you.
