Got a question for you older car experts. I have a friend's project car in my shop now, with an unusual transmission. It's a 1964 Oldsmobile Jetstar 88, with the Jetaway 2 speed auto box. This thing has no external torque converter, just a damper plate connecting it to the flywheel. (Like a Borg Warner Velvetdrive marine reverse box) Inside it is a 'fluid coupling' with some sort of electric lockup system. Also has an electric detent (passing gear) system. What I need to find out is, what do the two wires from the transmission do? One is black and has about 20 ohms resistance to ground, the other is yellow and seems to be an open circuit at all times, (even in high gear) The engine supposedly had a 2 stage switch on it. One set of contacts closed at almost full throttle, the other set closed at full throttle. Someone told me there might have been some sort of vacuum switch in this system at one point. If I know what the original function of the two wires going to the transmission is I can make an electronic module to emulate the switches. If anyone knows anything about this system, please tell me. Any help will be much appreciated! Thanks in advance,

I'm not expert on repairing these, but the Jetaway I believe was a 3 speed box, with a small fluid coupling that emptied & filled to help smooth the shifts and acted as a quasi torque converter. It's been a long time since seeing a 64 Olds, and I didn't know how these boxes hooked up.
