Has anyone recently used any of the rust conversion products? I have rust in location on my car that I would rather not have to take apart and sandblast.

I have investigated the following products: AK8, Corrosion Block, Corroseal, EverCreate, Evapo-Rust, ACF-50, Killrust Rust-Eater, Picklex 20, Must For Rust, RustBuster, Rust Doctor, Glo-Protek, Rustop, Sur-Prep V, Boeshield T-9, Zero Rust, and of course POR-15. All of them claim to convert and/or protect against rust and all of them claim to be the best, and many criticize the other manufacture's products.

Since I would rather treat my rust only once, I have found the best recommendations are actual user testimonials. Most of the rust is on the undercarriage and frame, so I am looking for something I can easily spray on before painting or undercoating. However, most importantly something that will last at least a few years.

Any first hand, information (good or bad) would be very useful.

Some of these I have heard ,used and some I have not but keep in mind what I know from people who made these things is there is no such thing as a converter most only seal the rust from oxygen and moisture. Some like POR are a hydroscopic paints (epoxies that use moisture to cure). It is best you rid yourself of the rust if it's surface rust ,clean it and seal it . You also said frame rust ,if it's surface no big deal as most do have some but if there is any rust through or holes ,,,,Do Not attempt to patch with rust paint . I guess they do have their places as a car that doesn't have a lot of value and maybe a pitted trunk it would be a temp. repair . Mike

I have been satisfied with POR-15 when using their metal prep and degreaser with the final treatment coat. It has to be clean though, if its not, there's nothing that will stop it. CorvairDan

I sprayed POR 15 on the frame of an MGTD 16 years ago in the process of restoration and subsequently sold it. Saw it at a car show a couple of years ago and the POR 15 was still intact and there was no rust. I swear by the stufr. In fact I have been very satisfied with all their products.

Why didn't you paint it in the end?
