I just bought a '28 Ford Model A roadster pickup and I need to find the serial number for verification. I was told it is near the firewall on the driver's side framerail under the hood. I looked there, but there is a piece of sheetmetal called the 'hood shelf' in catalogs that covers most of the frame there. Is the number under the shelf or is it on the part of the frame visible? It is rusty and painted heavily, so I really need to know.

Lucis,
Top of frame drivers side close to firewall is correct. May be covered by fender flange and painted over or rusty. Should have a * before and after the numbers. I had a 32 roadster inspected years ago at my shop by the Kansas Highway patrol but don't remember if the fenders were on it then. They didn't know where to look. Good luck with your project. Those are rare these days.
