I'm posting this for a friend, although I'm smart enough not to expect a lot from the post.

His grandparents bought a '62 Impala SS convert brand new. It had been sitting for many years in his grandmother's garage. His grandfather had already passed away. Her health had been deteriorating, so my friend and his father decided to get the car checked out, tuned up, etc... before firing it for the first time in many years. The car was to stay in the family once running.

Then they wanted to take her for a ride in it. He took it to a mechanic he'd used several times before. The car had been kept inside except for 'that' night. Supposedly it wasn't ready to run. The fuel line was disconnected for a new filter to be installed, needed a new battery (seemingly easy things to hook up). This past weekend it was stolen and the plates from another vehicle in their lot were swapped on.

Anyhow, it's an all original 62 SS convert, cream paint/interior/top with an auto trans. Small block V8 (he said it was a 327). It was stolen from the Tacoma, WA area. It sounds like it's way too nice and original of a car to be stolen for parts as it's a completely numbers matching car. If anybody knows anything, an email would be appreciated and I'll forward the information on to him. Sadly his grandmother died the same night the car was stolen. At least she didn't have to find out what happened.

Thanks,

Depending on money available, there are a number of steps that can be taken. No-cost would be to contact as many classic and muscle car clubs as feasible providing the info. Who knows, the thieve could be stupid enough to go to a cruise-in in a nearby county before moving the car. I mean, outside of professionals who are in it for the parts and/or have the setup to fence them, presumably these guys are amateurs and don't have the resource. From bitter experience: one 'professiona;' moved 2500mi away and changed his name but was stupid enough to keep using the same SSN so a PI found him. Norm

He's hired one, so they're working on it. Of course the lot only has insurance for cars parked inside and stolen... how convenient.

From time to time take a look at ebay and other on line auctions. Some like Excite have a 'cool notify' feature that will automatically alert you via email if a vehicle of that make and model is listed for sale. I worked as a detective in the arson division for many years and there is one universal, undeniable, truth....crooks are stooopid. Ron
