A friend has a 68 Olds convertible and he needs to add fluid for the convertible top hydraulic system. It calls for Type 'A' Automatic Transmission Fluid. He has tried a number of local auto parts stores and no one carries Type A.

Should Type A be that hard to find? What can he substitute?
